Data Scientist

Location: Chantilly, VA
Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to support highly visible and mission-critical data collection and analysis efforts in Chantilly, VA. This role will focus on developing tailored solutions that accelerate the secure, reliable, and timely delivery of open-source data, information, and insights.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of Python development, AI/ML, data engineering, AWS, and geospatial experience and be comfortable working with complex datasets that vary widely in format, structure, and schema.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with technical leadership to architect, develop, deploy, and maintain fast-turnaround capabilities supporting high-priority collection efforts.
  • Strategically apply AI/ML techniques to extract, process, format, analyze, and expose relevant content through indexed search tools.
  • Work with a wide variety of structured and unstructured data, including raw text, audio, images, video, documents, CSV, Parquet, Avro, JSON, JSONL, XML, and other evolving data formats.
  • Provide data engineering support, including cleaning, transforming, modeling, and formatting data from known and unknown sources.
  • Develop solutions for processing and analyzing geospatial data.
  • Move data between cloud storage environments in support of critical requirements.
  • Create and maintain capabilities within an AWS environment using approved cloud services.
  • Build and manage AWS resources, including EC2, Lambda, S3, and IAM.
  • Validate collected and processed data to ensure it meets required formats and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, mission partners, and other stakeholders to ensure solutions meet defined requirements.
  • Maintain source code within GitHub and provide clear documentation for code, deployment, and execution.
  • Perform ongoing operations and maintenance to adapt solutions to changing technologies, collection targets, data formats, schemas, and naming conventions.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with Python.
  • Experience with geospatial software, programming packages, and geospatial data formats.
  • Hands-on experience creating and managing AWS resources, including:
    • EC2
    • AWS Lambda
    • Amazon S3
    • IAM policies and permissions
  • Experience using GitHub for source code management.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience deploying AWS applications using the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK).
    AWS CDK experience is specifically desired; Ansible and Terraform are not considered substitutes.
  • Experience building and deploying containerized applications.
  • Experience developing, integrating with, or maintaining search technologies such as Elasticsearch, Apache Lucene, or Amazon OpenSearch.
  • Experience creating and programmatically working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with additional cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure.
  • AWS certifications such as:
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
    • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
